LeBron James最終選擇加盟費城七六人，讓積極追逐他的明尼蘇達灰狼無緣迎來這位四屆年度MVP。如今《The Athletic》也曝光一段有趣插曲，透露Anthony Edwards在LeBron做出決定前，曾半開玩笑地向對方下達「最後通牒」。
根據《The Athletic》記者Jon Krawczynski報導指出，現年24歲的Edwards因為遲遲等不到LeBron決定去向，在雙方多次交流中忍不住開玩笑催促對方：
「在其中一次談話中，Edwards半開玩笑地告訴LeBron，如果他再不趕快做決定，他就要把LeBron的頭擰下來。」
後續LeBron聽完後笑了出來反問Edwards「如果我最後沒有加盟灰狼呢？」而Edwards幾乎沒有思考便立刻回覆說：
「那也沒關係因為等我們交手的時候，我一樣會在場上把你的頭擰下來。」
錯失LeBron加盟後，灰狼今夏陣容也出現不少變動，Julius Randle被交易至布魯克林籃網，Naz Reid則被交易至夏洛特黃蜂，讓球隊四號位出現空缺。外界一度猜測Jaden McDaniels將改打大前鋒，不過總教練Chris Finch休賽季受訪時並未透露有此規劃。
