根據知名記者Brian Windhorst和Tim MacMahon在podcast節目《The Hoop Collective》中透露，老鷹在今年這個暑假詢問了了Trae Young的交易，但是整個聯盟市場不如預期。

Windhorst說：「如果真的有人想要獲得Trae Young，他現在早就不是穿老鷹隊的球衣。如果是馬刺隊想要他，他原也可以輕鬆得到Trae Young。」

這句話也可以看出，Trae Young的交易市場不如預期，也可以看出馬刺是有機會談到Trae Young的交易，但是老鷹若要重建，這代表馬刺付出的首輪簽價值提高，造成兩邊交易談判破裂。

“If there was a real market for Trae Young, he’d be somewhere else right now… If the Spurs wanted Trae Young, they easily could’ve gone and gotten him.”
