先前就有兩隊記者報導正在彼此接觸，原先包裹內容是兩張的二輪籤，後續有加價成三枚的二輪籤，O’Neale本賽季場均7.4分、4.5籃板，是太陽所需要的板凳側翼戰力。
另外灰熊也有參與這筆交易之中，送出David Roddy給太陽隊換回選秀籤互換權，太陽再多得一名可以在替補端貢獻的球員。
