根據記者Shams Charania, John Hollinger報導，太陽隊會讓Bradley Beal在訓練營開始擔任控球後衛角色，負責啟動太陽隊進攻。
記者們同樣也報導，太陽會讓後衛Jordan Goodwin做第一替補控球角色，老將Eric Gordon、雙向球員Saben Lee也會共同負擔這個職位。
根據Basketball Reference資料紀錄，Beal去年在球場上打控球後衛的時間，僅有10%。

太陽隊交易掉Cam Payne主因是要省豪華稅，記者報導太陽原本可以在六月就裁掉他（薪水650萬僅有200萬保障），但透過交易換回交易特例，可以至少省下1000萬美金豪華稅，是不能移動的金額。
根據ESPN薪資專家Bobby Marks推特表示，太陽省下2640萬美金的豪華稅。
