馬刺今天在對上老鷹隊比賽，終場以99-109不敵老鷹隊，上半場結束前輸到35分的表現引發了馬刺隊總教練Gregg Popovich的不滿，在球隊第三節開賽讓三名先發從板凳出發。
不過這個調度確實讓馬刺振作起來，尤其是同樣先從板凳出發Victor Wembanyama，他在上半場沒有得到任何分數，但是在下半場一口氣轟下了26分，第四節得到18分的表現，幫助球隊縮小比分差。

賽後Wembanyama被記者問到了這個下放板凳的操作，他甚至表示他不會不接受這個嚴厲的指導和下放板凳，他甚至歡迎這個舉動，Wembanyama：「我喜歡被教導，我喜歡如果我打不好，被威脅要被下放G League，我喜歡承擔我犯錯的後果。」

“I like to be coached. I like to be threatened to be sent to the G League if I don’t play the right way. I like when there are consequences to my mistakes.”
Wembanyama也透露Popovich說他擺在球場上的球員都是他100%相信的球員，半場後換板凳球員上場，是要他們告訴先發球員該如何打球，而且用詞都非常的強烈。
